Building a sustainable future: Morson Edge’s net-zero targets approved by the SBTi

Morson Edge has reached a major sustainability milestone: our near-term targets have officially been validated by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi).

This validation reflects our commitment to meaningful climate action and aligns us with the global effort to keep temperature rise below 1.5°C, the threshold identified by the IPCC as critical to avoiding the most severe impacts of climate change.

By achieving SBTi validation, Morson Edge joins a network of more than 8,000 organisations worldwide taking science-based action to cut emissions in line with climate goals.

What this means for Morson Edge

SBTi Services has confirmed that our Scope 1 and 2 emissions targets meet the SBTi Criteria and Recommendations, meaning our near-terms reduction goals are consistent with the latest climate science.

To reach the stage, we undertook a comprehensive carbon inventory over the past year, evaluating emissions across all scopes and subcategories in line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. This allowed us to establish a clear and accurate emissions baseline, identified key sources of emissions, and informed a series of actionable reduction strategies.

Using the SBTi target-setting tool, we set science-based, data-driven targets aligned with climate goals which are now validated by the SBTi.

Our approved near-term science-based targets

  • Reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 60% by 2034 from a 2023 baseline
  • Increase sourcing of renewable electricity to 100% by 2030
  • Reduce absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 40% by 2034 from a 2023 base year

Josh Stodel, PISEP REnvP, Sustainability Manager at Morson:

“At Morson, sustainability means acting today without compromising tomorrow. We go beyond compliance, with environmental care at the core of our zero-harm goal.

The validation of our near-term science-based targets by the SBTi is a significant milestone and marks a key step in our commitment to real climate action.”

About the Science Based Targets initiative

The SBTi empowers companies and financial institutions worldwide to play their part in combating the climate crisis. In 2021, the SBTi launched the first ever science-based Net-Zero Standard to address the inconsistencies in net-zero targets, and allow companies to decarbonise at the pace and scale required to align with the goals of the Paris Agreement and maintain the 1.5°C target.

The SBTi sets best-practices guidance for setting science-based emissions targets, and ensures transparency and accountability in how organisations reduce their climate impact. Its founding partners include CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

Building a sustainable future

This achievement reinforces Morson’s long-term commitment to operate responsibly, minimise our environmental impact, and contribute to a more sustainable and resilient energy future.

Our validation by the SBTi is not the finish line, it’s the foundation for the next phase of our journey, as we continue to build a cleaner, more efficient, and more responsible industry.
