When national construction leader Sir Robert McAlpine (SRM) needed a smarter, more controlled approach to managing its contractor workforce, Morson delivered more than a service. We built a partnership that reshaped resilience. Across four years, and through one of the most turbulent periods in modern construction, we’ve helped SRM stay operational, agile, and in command of its contingent workforce nationwide.
Appointed in 2017, Morson was tasked with creating an integrated service model that could bring full visibility and financial control to SRM’s contractor supply chain.
By embedding as a true MSP partner, we connected directly into SRM’s project pipeline, forecasting demand, creating tailored talent pools, and mobilising skilled professionals at pace.
Our nationwide footprint made deployment seamless. From project inception to site mobilisation, Morson Edge delivered consistent quality, measurable cost savings, and complete workforce clarity, setting a new benchmark for control across SRM’s sites.
Then came 2020.
As the UK went into lockdown, construction across the country faced an unprecedented standstill. Within 48 hours of the government announcement, Morson had executed a national contractor stand-down plan – safely, transparently, and in full alignment with SRM’s leadership.
That speed wasn’t luck; it was the strength of the model we’d built together. With full workforce visibility and clear lines of communication, SRM’s operations were paused safely, and later remobilised just as efficiently.
When work resumed, we introduced new technology-led reporting, providing real-time cost insights and regional data that allowed SRM to manage spend and risk in a volatile climate.
Through the REED Keep Britain Working movement, we also redeployed displaced contractors within 48 hours, keeping critical projects active when skills were scarce and uncertainty was high.
At the heart of it all, this partnership wasn’t just about systems. It was about people.
Our joint response prioritised both the mental and physical wellbeing of SRM’s workforce. We established regular communications, safety assurance measures, and accessible wellbeing support to ensure teams remained connected, informed, and cared for.
“They achieved in 48 hours what our internal teams would have taken a week to do. Even under pressure, the service stayed personal – we always felt like a priority. The synergy between our two businesses is what makes it work,” says Nadeem Mirza, Head of Resourcing at Sir Robert McAlpine.
Four years in, the SRM–Morson partnership is stronger than ever.
What started as workforce optimisation has evolved into a long-term collaboration built on agility, trust, and shared accountability. Today, SRM’s contingent workforce is not just managed. It’s measured, protected, and ready for what’s next.
Because when construction meets challenge, sharper partnerships build stronger outcomes.
