Your programmes run on contractors: the protection engineer on a substation upgrade, the stress analyst on an airframe, the cleared developer on a defence system. Morson Edge’s managed service puts every one of them, and every agency that supplies them, under one process, one set of terms and one live view of spend and compliance. Your hiring managers get back to running the work.
A managed service provider (MSP) runs an organisation’s contingent workforce programme on its behalf. It manages the recruitment suppliers, sets consistent rates and terms, checks every contractor’s compliance before they start, handles timesheets and payment, and reports on spend and performance. The client keeps the hiring decisions. The MSP runs the process around them.
Morson Edge pioneered the UK’s first managed service model back in 1996 – setting the standard for how recruitment and workforce management should be done. We’ve run managed services for engineering, energy, defence, infrastructure and technology organisations, including nuclear programmes where every contractor needs the right clearance and certification on day one.
Today, that same pioneering spirit drives our Managed Service Provider (MSP) solutions, designed to cut complexity, create clarity, and deliver talent that keeps your projects moving at pace.
It’s Thursday afternoon. A project manager on a grid reinforcement scheme needs three protection engineers on site by Monday. She’s briefed four agencies, each with its own rates, terms and paperwork. Two of them send the same CV. Nobody can tell her what the last engineer in that role was paid, or whether his site certification is still in date.
By Monday she has spent more time managing suppliers than managing the project. Multiply that across every site and programme and you have a productivity problem, not a hiring one.
Every agency has its own rates, terms and process. Costs creep up, and the same candidate can arrive three times at three prices.
Spend, headcount, tenure and supplier performance sit in different places. Answering “what did contractors cost us last quarter?” takes a week.
Right to work, IR35, security clearance, safety-critical certification. One missed check on a regulated site is a safety risk and a reputational one.
In nuclear, power and defence the people you need are already in demand. A slow, fragmented process loses them to whoever offers first.
If two or more of these sound familiar, a managed service will usually pay for itself. If none do, we’ll tell you, and point you to something that fits better, such as PSL+.
Most MSPs are process experts. We’re that too, but our recruiters also know the difference between a protection engineer and a commissioning engineer, and what clearance a defence programme needs before anyone sets foot on site. That’s what keeps fill rates high when skills are short.
Vencuro handles the routine: approvals, timesheets, compliance records, reporting. Our people bring the judgement: which contractor will keep a cool head during an outage, and which supplier to call when a role has been open too long.
Technology handles the routine. People bring the judgement.
We onboard, manage and rate your recruitment suppliers on the same data, and keep niche specialist agencies in the mix where they add something.
Our own technology. Live dashboards on spend, fill rates, supplier performance and compliance, in one place.
Right to work, references, qualifications, safety-critical certification and security clearance, checked and recorded before day one. A documented IR35 process for every role.
Rate benchmarking by discipline and region, so you pay the market rate rather than whatever the last agency asked for.
Timesheets, payment and a named contact for every contractor. Contractors who are paid on time and looked after stay on your programme.
A named account lead, [on-site or remote] delivery team, agreed service levels and regular governance meetings.
Each model solves a different workforce problem, and plenty of our clients combine two.

Morson Edge is one of four specialist businesses in Morson Group. Productivity problems don't come in silos, so your managed service can draw on the other three.
An MSP is a partner that runs your contingent workforce programme for you. It manages your recruitment suppliers, sets consistent rates and terms, checks each contractor’s compliance, handles timesheets and payment, and reports on spend and performance. You keep the hiring decisions.
An MSP manages contingent workers: contractors, interims and temporary staff. RPO (recruitment process outsourcing) handles permanent hiring, with the provider acting as part or all of your in-house recruitment team. Many organisations use both, or combine them in a Total Talent model.
No. Suppliers who perform well usually stay. They join the managed supply chain on the same terms, rates and service levels as everyone else, and we measure them on the same data.
Through consistent rates by role and region, an end to duplicate submissions, suppliers competing on quality and speed, and less management time spent on admin. Sir Robert McAlpine saved more than £1m in the first year of its Morson managed service, and Scottish Power Renewables saves £500k a year.
Under the off-payroll working rules, medium and large organisations must decide each contractor’s employment status and issue a status determination statement. We run a consistent determination process, keep the records and make sure the paperwork is in place before a contractor starts. Responsibility for the determination stays with you as the client.
Typically 6 – 12 weeks, depending on how many contractors, sites and suppliers are moving across. We agree a mobilisation plan up front so live work carries on while contractors transfer.
In short, all. Aerospace and defence; energy, power and renewables, including nuclear; transportation and infrastructure; and tech and professional services. Current clients include the Post Office, Scottish Power Renewables and UK Power Networks.
